Dysphoria/Euphoria: An Exhibition
The Projector Picturehouse, The Cathay, Singapore. November 11–20, 2022.
I was one of the eight trans artists featured in ”Dysphoria/Euphoria,” an immersive exhibition at The Projector. I shared two works with 1700 visitors and received attention from the FEMALE Magazine, Coconuts Singapore, ZULA, and Arts Equator.

Two Flowers
With Ivy Tan
Dysphoria/Euphoria: An Exhibition.
The Projector Picturehouse, The Cathay, Singapore. November 11–20, 2022.
This drawing series originated from a script I wrote for the stage and is visualized by Singaporean animator Ivy Tan. It takes inspiration from the greatest love stories across East and West and redeploys the centuries-old notion that true love is something worth dying for. The two flowers here are queer, with a distinct touch of softness, delicacy, and defiance that might only be described by an untranslatable Chinese concept: 情 (qing). In reading through the panels, I would like the viewer to reconsider their ideas around womanhood, fertility, and nature. But most importantly, I want them to feel the qing.

Barbie, last seen injecting herself with hormones
Dysphoria/Euphoria: An Exhibition.

Pills. Patches. Needles. Injections. It is sometimes said that trans people “overdo” it. There seems to be a tendency for us trans women to be hyper-feminine. Trans celebrities and influencers alike turn themselves into literal Barbie dolls. Is it wrong—to say all you want about the patriarchy but still desperately crave men’s attention and submit to their fetishizing gaze? On a related note, why would some trans people risk everything to self-medicate with hormones from the black market? Perhaps more fundamentally, what does it take to be a woman?
